FedEx Shipping (Legacy) - FedEx Carrier Integration
Automate FedEx shipping workflow from quote to delivery
The FedEx Shipping (Legacy) module integrates with FedEx shipping services, enabling automatic rate calculation from FedEx API, shipment creation and label printing, return label generation, package tracking via tracking number, international customs handling, and cargo insurance support.
This is the legacy version of FedEx integration. Odoo recommends migrating to the new FedEx Shipping module using REST API.

Configure FedEx Carrier
To use the FedEx module, configure authentication and service information:
Steps
1. Go to Inventory → Configuration → Delivery → Shipping Methods
2. Click New and select Provider = FedEx (Legacy)
3. Fill authentication info: Developer Key, Password, Account Number, Meter Number
4. Obtain credentials from FedEx Web Services after completing Certification Process
5. Configure service: Service Type, Drop-Off Type, Package Type
6. Select measurement units: Package Weight Unit (LB/KG), Package Length Unit
7. Configure labels: Label Format (PDF/PNG/EPL2/ZPLII), Label Type (PAPER_LETTER/STOCK_4X6)
8. Optional: Enable Saturday Delivery, select Duties paid by (Sender/Recipient)
Calculate Shipping Rates on Orders
Process for calculating FedEx shipping rates:
Steps
1. Create or open Sale Order with products and delivery address
2. Click Add Shipping and select FedEx carrier
3. Click Get Rate to fetch price from FedEx API
4. System calculates rate based on weight, dimensions, and address
5. Shipping fee is added as a product line to the order
6. For international shipping, fee may include customs duties
Create FedEx Shipment
Process for creating shipment from Delivery Order:
Steps
1. Confirm Sale Order to create Delivery Order
2. Check: Carrier assigned, delivery address complete, product weight set
3. Click Validate to confirm delivery
4. System automatically sends request to FedEx API
5. FedEx creates shipment and returns tracking number
6. Shipping label is downloaded and attached to chatter
7. For multi-package: Click Put in Pack for each group, select Package Type, FedEx creates separate tracking for each package
Print Shipping Label
Steps to print shipping label:
Steps
1. Open Delivery Order with created shipment
2. Go to Chatter section (below form)
3. Find message "Shipment created into Fedex"
4. Click on attachment file (e.g., Label-WH-OUT-00123.pdf)
5. Download and print label according to configured format
6. PDF: Print with regular printer, PNG: Thermal printer, EPL2/ZPLII: Zebra label printer
Create Return Label
Two ways to create return labels:
Key points
• Automatic: Enable Return Label on Delivery in Delivery Carrier, return label auto-created when shipping
• Manual: Open Delivery Order with tracking, click Create Return Label or create Return Picking
• Send return label to customer via email
• Customer prints label and attaches to return package
• FedEx will pick up according to return label information
Track Packages
Tracking number displays on Delivery Order and can be tracked on FedEx:

• Click tracking number (if link) to open FedEx page
• Or visit: https://www.fedex.com/apps/fedextrack/?trackingnumber=<TRACKING_NUMBER>
• For multi-package: Each package has separate tracking, displayed comma-separated
• Tracking number automatically sent to customer via email (if configured)
Handle International Shipping
Requirements for international shipping (INTERNATIONAL_ECONOMY, INTERNATIONAL_PRIORITY):

• Complete address including country
• Accurate product weight
• HS Code (customs code) on product
• Country of Origin on product
• Customs value of goods
• System automatically creates Commercial Invoice for international shipments
• PDF file attached in chatter named "Fedex Documents"
• Configure Duties paid by: Sender (shipper pays) or Recipient (receiver pays)
Practical Tips
Key points
• Cost optimization: Choose appropriate service type (GROUND cheaper than OVERNIGHT), use FEDEX_BOX for discounted rates
• Avoid errors: Always fill street, city, zip, country; State code required for US, CA, PR, IN
• Accurate weight: Avoid higher charges due to rounding
• Missing HS Code: Required for international shipping
• Handle API errors: "Rating is temporarily unavailable" - Retry later; "Invalid account number" - Check credentials
• Saturday Delivery: Only with FEDEX_2_DAY, PRIORITY_OVERNIGHT, FIRST_OVERNIGHT, INTERNATIONAL_PRIORITY
• Insurance: Go to Delivery Carrier → Pricing tab → Enter Shipping Insurance (% of goods value)
• Pre-validate checklist: Carrier assigned, address complete, weight > 0, package type selected, HS Code (if international)
