Workorder Expiry

Product expiry checks in work orders

The MRP Workorder Expiry module integrates product expiry tracking into manufacturing workorder operations. When products with expiration dates are used in work orders, this module ensures operators are alerted about expired or soon-to-expire items during the manufacturing process.

Purpose

This technical bridge module automatically activates when both Manufacturing (MRP Workorder) and Product Expiry modules are installed, providing seamless expiry date validation during workorder execution.

Key Features

Key points

  • Expiry validation on workorder completion in tablet interface

  • Operators receive visual alerts (orange-red color) when attempting to use expired products

  • Validation occurs before workorder can be marked as complete

  • Expiry checks also applied when navigating to manufacturing order from workorder tablet view

User Workflow

During workorder execution on tablet interface.

Steps

  • 1. Open Workorder on Tablet Interface.

  • 2. Scan or select components with lot/serial numbers.

  • 3. Click the Finish button to complete workorder.

  • 4. If any component has an expired lot/serial number, an alert appears.

  • 5. The alert is displayed in orange-red color for high visibility.

Handle Expired Products

Steps

  • 1. Review the expiry warning.

  • 2. Replace expired lots with valid ones.

  • 3. Retry finishing the workorder.

Visual Indicators

Key points

  • Expired Alert Styling: Orange-red text aligned to the right with left padding for clear visibility

  • Alerts appear inline within the workorder interface for immediate operator attention

Technical Notes

Key points

  • This is an auto-install module (no manual installation required)

  • Depends on: mrp_workorder and product_expiry

  • Works exclusively with the tablet/shop floor interface

  • No configuration required - works out of the box

Best Practices

Key points

  • Regular Lot Rotation: Implement FIFO (First In, First Out) to minimize expired product usage

  • Pre-Work Checks: Review component expiry dates before starting workorders

  • Immediate Action: Address expiry alerts immediately rather than attempting to bypass them

  • Inventory Audits: Regularly audit inventory to identify and remove expired stock

Limitations

Key points

  • Expiry validation only occurs in the tablet interface workflow

  • Does not prevent expired products from being added to workorders (validation happens at completion)

  • Requires products to have expiry tracking enabled and lots/serial numbers assigned
