Scenario 1: Staff negotiates price with customer
Customer buys laptop priced 20M (cost 16M, margin 20%), requests discount.
Staff sees current margin is 4M (20%). Discount 1M, margin becomes 3M (15.8%). Discount 2M, margin becomes 2M (11.1%). Staff decides maximum 1.5M discount to keep margin above 15%.
Scenario 2: Manager discovers loss-making product
In margin report, manager sees Product A sold 50 units with -5% margin.
Investigation reveals cost increased but selling price not updated. Adjust selling price or stop selling this product until better cost available.
Scenario 3: End-of-season clearance promotion
Fashion store discounts 30% to clear end-of-season inventory.
Staff sees margin drops from 40% to 10%, still profitable. Manager accepts low margin to recover capital quickly and free up warehouse.
Scenario 4: Selling product bundles
Customer buys phone + case + screen protector combo. Phone margin 15%, accessories margin 50%.
Total combo margin 22%. Staff discounts accessories to encourage combo purchase, still ensures total margin above 18%.
Scenario 5: Compare staff performance
End of month, manager views margin report by staff. Staff A revenue 100M, margin 25%. Staff B revenue 120M, margin 18%.
Staff A sells less but higher profit (25M vs 21.6M). Manager rewards A and trains B on profitable sales strategies.
